Please find enclosed statement taken from Alex McCallum who attended at Milngavie Police Office. Have enclosed my statement taken from him along with his handwritten letter to Police. At no point could he describe the girl that he thought resembled Madeleine McCann, hence the reason I have not put a descriprion in the statement. When asked to describe all he said was, "She looked like Madeleine". I asked him to describe further with(out) avail.

Cheers

(Note : Here, is the handwritten letter sent to Police by Mr Alex McCallum. In the Files the pages of the letter, and the later Statement, have been mixed up with some later pages being inserted before the earlier pages. For clarity, I have posted the letter, and Statement, in their logical page sequence, but retained the original Page numbering for each page of this report within the Files)

1.
Late afternoon on Sunday June 17th this year (2007) my wife, adult grand-daughter and myself went for coffee in the Frizzell area of Bournemouth after a visit to a building site of 900 flats being built nearby, where my grand-son hopes to reside when completed in October.

My grand-daughter swiftly parked her family car, a Merc, at the same time as the dark blue BMW in front. A tallish man of athletic built, late 40's, rounded head and neatly clipped short hair, got out of it and moved towards us. I could not see we had done anything wrong. Surely not road-rage. Apparently he was concerned with the car that had pulled up behind us at the same time. We had separated them.

In the cafe on the corner adorned with classically ancient murals on the walls, the group sat together like a wax museum, never looking or moving in any direction.
We were the only ones beside them. A middle-aged man looked ordinary, also the woman beside him in spectacles, smaller. The boy not yet a teenager stood immobile between them gazing towards me all the time.

Page 2743 (Page 3 of 8 )

2.
The very young girl with her wide eyes did not look like the boy as being of the same nationality.
Both my family thought it to be merely my fertile imagination to be at work when I thought the girl could be the missing Madeleine. The other woman in the group I could not see her face, only her back towards me, looked foreign with brunette hair tied together at the back of her neck. Slightly wavy perhaps.

Conclusion. Why were they not talking to one another ? Was their language different from one another that they could only communicate only when out of earshot ? What of the...(illegible)...boy ? Was it really a family, all different, returning from holiday with the boot of the other car behind full, it appears, to the brim with clothes levelled out and no sign of suitcases ? Given the benefit of the doubt they looked a motley lot.

Note :(sic) I was wearing a Pegasus Bridge badge with the Normandy flag from an earlier visit. Did they think they were being followed ?

Page 2744 (Page 4 of 8 )

3.
They sat for a while, long after our coffee was gone with nothing on their table. Eventually, it appeared the young girl was given "jelly" from the "BMW" man on his knee, whereupon she appeared weary and rested on his shoulder. They were still there when we left. If the "jellyglass" had been tested it would have read male DNA.

Were the children drugged ? If her hair had been dyed,...( (illegible)...as on TV), as photographs depict she wore a headband to hide any change in roots colouring.

(Note : From here, witness's writing is becoming more difficult to read)

(letter continues) :

- Perhaps I am one who thought it could be Madeleine like 5000 others.

(Note : Here, witness has drawn a shape like a head, (Note : but looks more like a pail), filled in in a dark scribble, with the words "Top", "Chin", "(illegible)", "Narrow" and "Headband" written on the left margin of the page)

If I was right she could be here in Britain.

One report I read in a newspaper was of a Frenchman who kept an abducted child for two months before handing over to a paedophile group.

A dullish day it was with few about.

Could be harmless but odd.

Page 2746 (Page 5 of 8 )

(?)4.
There is no clue as the whereabouts of
the missing child Madeleine. What
do you think about the situation ?
Just someone with a fertile imagination ?
Or were they waiting for someone
else, or time for drug-taking ?

Statement :

My name is Alex McCallum. I am 84 years of age. I have stayed at my home address for 5 years now. I left my home address on Friday 15th June 2007, heading, by car, to Bournemouth, where myself, my wife Cynthia and my grand-daughter Lucy...(illegible)....were staying at St...(illegible)...(illegible)...site for a week in a luxury caravan.

My grand-daughter Lucy parked her car on the street near to the cafe, at the same time I noticed a dark blue BMW saloon (NFD) in front of Lucy's vehicle. A male of the following description got out of the said vehicle. He was around 6 feet of athletic build, late 40's, rounded head and neatly clipped short hair, he was of European appearance. He then made his way towards the car which had parked behind us, am not sure of the make but I reckon a vehicle of equal size. The vehicle behind us had it's boot filled ot the brim with clothes, up to the level where a partial shelf would go. It was late afternoon when Lucy parked the car on Sunday 17th June 2007 and myself, wife and Lucy went for a coffee in the Frizzell area of Bournemouth. Am not sure of the cafe's name, but it was on the corner and the walls within were adorned with classic ancient murals.

Witness Statement

Continuation Sheet :

The group, 1 male adult and 2 female adults and two children, boy and girl, entered the same cafe as ourselves and sat together, like something out of a wax museum, not looking or moving in any direction. We sat near to them. The adult male was the gentleman I described earlier. One of the female adults as being small with spectacles NFD and the other female adult had dark hair pulled back in a bun, taller and possibly early 50's NFD. The boy with the group I would reckon was around 8 years of age, was standing motionless between the male and the woman who had her hair swept back in a bun, gazing straight ahead in my direction. The young girl who was with them, who I possibly think resembles Madeleine McCann did not look like she was from the same family as the little boy. They looked of different nationalities.
All persons sitting at the table were not talking to each other. They sat for a while after our coffee was finished with nothing on their table. A short while later the young girl was fed jelly while she sat on the male's knee. At no point feeding herself. Once finished she appeared tired and weary and rested her head on the male's shoulder. We then left the cafe and they were still there.
I ask myself, "Were the children drugged ?".
The little girl's hair may be dyed, but she wore a headband to hide any change in root colouring, coming underneath her chin.
I remember from the news, a girl being fed jelly. Is this possibly linked ?

Information received from Katie at South Wales Police Control Room who received a '999' call from a male caller ringing on a mobile phone no. 079723xxxxx.

The caller claimed to have seen a car, (no colour, description or index no.), in the Cardiff area around 1300 hrs two weeks ago. The car contained three Moroccan males and a child with blonde hair. The caller believed the child was Madeleine McCann. No descriprions, other than that the driver was aged about 40 and the front-seat passenger was aged about 30. The third male was sitting in the rear of the vehicle. No location was given for the alleged sighting.

The caller states that he lives in a "home" but no address was given and he stated that at the time of the alleged sighting he was accompanied by his "keyworker", who did not agree that the child was Madeleine.

No other details known.

This information was not received via the CrimeStoppers 0800555111 telephone number and has not been recorded on the CrimeStoppers database.

me and my husband have been in Majorca recently and on the 2nd night, 22nd August, went to a bar/cafe close to our apartment (Gotmar) Porta Pollenca. on the next table was 1 man 2 women and I thought 1 girl about 8, there was a smaller girl in a buggy I didn't notice until she sat to have a meal. she was facing away from me but turned slightly and her blond hair fell forward I thought she looked familiar, I realised who it might be but every time I looked the man was watching me, as they were leaving she went to get in the buggy and I saw her face, small and dainty with green eyes, I thought she had brown eyes in the paper but the light wasn't good, getting on for 9 pm, I rang childline the following day but they needed me to be 100% and the eye colour and the fact that I couldn't see if her pupil was as pictured made me doubt myself, he also said if you see her again ring local police, I didn't see her but saw the man about 3 days later coming from the apartments opposite ours called habitat.
If this is of any interest my no. is 079725xxxxx

Letter received on 11th September 2007 dated 3rd September 2007 - contents read as follows :

I realise I should have reported this on the day or soon afterwards. Unfortunately, due to circumstances that day being so much against me I didn't report it, and then probably tried to persuade myself that I was wrong. As time went on, it became harder and harder to know what to do, because I felt it was too late. However, I cannot live with myself if I do nothing even if it is very late in the day.

Page 2761 (Page 2 of 3 )

Somewhere around the top of Sutton on the S4 route, it may have been The Avenue, but I am not entirely sure, but it was around that vivinity or just past it. Several people got on the bus at the same time, including a man, woman and a little girl, who were together.

The little girl had her face painted as a cat. She was around 4 years old, with darkish blonde, almost light-mousy, shoulder length hair.

The man, woman and child sat at the back of the bus. It was when they got up to get off the bus in St. Nicholas Way, Sutton - Bus Stop V, that I took more notice. The woman seemed totally divorced/detached from the little girl. The man was holding her hand. To me, they didn't seem to be her parents, they just didn't look right. They seemed too detached from the little girl.

The little girl looked at me and I smiled but she looked so sad and didn't return the smile, although she didn't really have time to, because at that point, the man tugged her hand pulling her around to face the other direction, to either oull her away from my gaze, or ready for getting off the bus. It was the smirks look with raised eyebrows, that the woman gave to the man just before they got off the bus, that really aroused my suspicions, it was almost a look of "Thank God, we made it".

I didn't get a chance to see the little girl's eyes, but it went through my mind, "Could this be Madeleine ?". Her hair was a darker blonde though than seen on her pictures, but hair can be coloured very easily. It was the same style, but shorter in length than her pictures, it came just to the top of her shoulders.

The woman with her was dark skinned, possibly Guyanese ( or ?Malaysian) or similiar, aged 45-55 years, with short, greying, dark hair. She was around f506(sic)....(Note : Possibly 5' 6")...She wore gold earrings, (quite chunky gold) - half hoop I think. She wore a threequarter length black leather coat and a small neckerchief scarf.

The man was around F508 / F509...(Note : Possibly 5' 8" / 5' 9")...., Thick set, not fat. White with a square looking face and flat looking head. It was like a crew-cut on top squared off, but short on back and sides, but overall, giving a peculiar looking shape to his head. I took him to be a bit younger than the woman. He was probably around 40-45ish, white male Eastern European.

That day I was supposed to be picked up from work by my husband, but he had an accident in the car, and phoned to say he couldn't pick me up and so I had to get the bus. I had trouble getting away from work, which meant I ended up leaving later then usual. I caught the S4 bus, which was also a little bit later than it should have been, so arrived around 1:00 pm or just after.

I was also in a hurry to get back home because I had an architect coming to the the house to draw plans and I was rushing. As it turned out, 15 minutes before he was supposed to arrive, I got a phone call to say he couldn't make it and would have to re-arrange.

That was a terrible waste of precious time, when I could actually used my time to get off the bus and try to confirm if this little girl was Madeleine or not, by trying to see her eyes clearly. And if confirmed, doing something to get this child rescued.

Mrs. L. Bray, xx, Gxxxxxxx Gxxxxxx, Morden, SMx xxW, Tel : 020864xxxxx

********************************************************************

I spoke to Mrs Linda Bray at 1340 hours on Wednesday 12th September 2007 and she covered the following Leicestershire requirements :

Metropolitan Police

Page 2762 (Page 3 of 3 )

The child was observed for a period of 20 minutes.
She has never seen these subjects before.
The girl had the same features as MADELEINE MCCANN.
She confirms that the date of sighting was 11th July 2007 and the date of her written letter is 3rd September 2007.
The lighting at the time was good, daylight and unobstructed.
The distance was about 10 feet.
There was no impediment during the observation.

Further enquiries reveal that the S4 bus operated by Quality Line, (Epsom), Coaches has CCTV but only kept for 7 days.

The Local Authority at Sutton have CCTV which is maintained by the ZT IBO but they only retain their recordings for 31 days.

Information passed to Leicestershire via E-mail to Task@LEICESTERSHIRE.PNN.POLICE.UK

Hello, I feel I must let you know of my thoughts regarding Maddy in the news today with photo's.
I did e-mail you 11th Sept after spotting her in a cafe one evening in Majorca 22nd August 07. I was with my husband and we saw her with two women, one man and a girl about 8, we sat next to them outside.

The pictures today, although blurry, was definitely the older girl, and the person in jeans and girley top looks like the man, he had long going grey hair tied back from his face and right down his back like a biker, the woman I could see was maybe 40ish with dark short hair a bit plain, and the oother woman had her back to me most of the time, her hair was mid blond to her shoulders, the man and dark haired woman and older girl all spoke with a soft Irish accent, the girl calling dark hair woman 'mammy'. The other woman didn't speak much. thats about all I can remember.
