To whom it may concern :

A call was received in the Force Enquiry Centre, Hampshire Constabulary, at 1046hrs today, from a female infmt calling herself Beatrice purporting to have seen Madeleine on 3 occasions whilst the infmt was on holiday in ALFLEIA, EGYPT.

The infmt returned on Friday 14/9/07 and saw who she thought was Madeleine in the week previously to her return.

The infmt believes that she saw Madeleine at a place called THE MED HOTEL. She was sitting outside with what appeared to be 3 Germans/Austrians. 2 females and 1 male.

Desc 1 female, approx 30yrs, blonde/black/brown hair.

Desc 2 female, plump with glasses.

Desc 3 male, hefty. Always wearing orange shirt.

Infmt was not willing to supply any further details and refused her phone number and this was not displayed on the phone.

Infmt did say that she has supplied info before when she believes that she saw Madeleine on a previous occasion in May when she saw a Detective Cousins.

House 56 B

(Translated from Spanish Language note) :

"Two floor house, split level living room, there is a stone chimney. Going up the stairs there is a bedroom with two beds, at the end of this room there is a door and inside it is where they have got the girl. She sleeps on the lower bunk of a bunk bed. She is sedated, she has scratches on her face and on her arm. In addition she has a puncture on her arm which appears to be where they administered the sedative. Sometimes her feet are bound.

The girl has blue boots.

The access to the house has a door and windows with glass on both sides. These windows do not open, they are fixed.
In the garage they have a Ford car, model Taurus or similar, light blue, number 'xxx-xxxx'.

Madeleine has a cuddly bear.

During the summer I saw a French family with a small girl fitting Madalegne's(sic) description in central France, stopped in a lay-by. The family seemed uneasy and the older "parents" had dark hair as did a girl of about 10 who was with them. The younger girl had blonde hair and the older woman seemed to keep hold of her - she wasn't allowed to wander off at all.
For some reason I wrote down the number of the car - if you can investigate I will gladly send you the French car number. I am a teacher and I must admit that until I saw recent photos of Madalegne(sic) in the UK press I haven't thought any more about the incident.

SECTION 3 [Free text]

I live at the above address with my wife J******* and have lived her for 31 years.

About 1614 hours on 28 August 2007 I was in Real Foods, 37 Broughton Street Edinburgh. I was alone throughout. I came out of Real Foods and turned left towards York Place. I noticed an adult female with a child either side walking towards me.

I can describe the adult female as well built, plumpish, late thirties, early forties about 5"1, white and younger child being held by hand of woman. The younger child was approximately 3 years old.

The young child to the right of the woman, suspected as Maddy, was approximately 4 years old and about 2"6 in height and taller than the other child. It was the hair on the elder child that drew my attention as it was very much like the image of the Moroccan child from the media, being wavy and just below the ear. The hair was quite fair. I managed to get a quick glance at the face, but noticed there was no red eye in the pupil.

They were then passed me and by the time I looked back I had walked about 20 metres and could not see them because there were people in the way.

I can recall the elder child was wearing a fair or white coat, I didn't notice a hood, but coat was padded and quite long, maybe mid-leg. I returned home and called the police about 1730 hours.
