A friend of Kate and Gerry McCann who spotted a man carrying a child on the night the little girl vanished drew a map for police, pinpointing exactly what she saw.
Jane Tanner became increasingly convinced that the man she saw had abducted the three-year-old daughter of her friends.
She drew a rough sketch by hand which was one of the many pieces of evidence contained in the 30,000 page Portuguese police dossier, released to the public for the first time.
Miss Tanner was one of the so-called "Tapas Nine" group of friends who were dining 40 yards from the McCann's holiday apartment where Madeleine vanished.
In her drawing, she marked where the McCanns were staying – apartment 5a at the Mark Warner Ocean Club resort in Praia da Luz.
Madeleine was sleeping in the same bedroom as her younger twin siblings Sean and Amelie in the apartment on May 3 last year before she vanished.
On the sketch, Miss Tanner marked the tapas restaurant where the friends were dining.
She also placed herself on the map – marked by a number four – a few yards from a man she said was carrying a child wearing pale pink pyjamas at around 9.15pm that night.
Madeleine was discovered missing at 10pm.

He walked across the top of the road - from point 5 to point 8 - as she approached him.
Slightly further down the road, Mr McCann was chatting to another holidaymaker Jeremy Wilkins, a friend he had made on the holiday, oblivious of what may have been taking place.
He did not even notice Miss Tanner as she walked past him to join the rest of the group at the tapas restaurant.
