Madeleine McCann cash to dry up by end of year

Kate and Gerry McCann are set to run out of cash to search for missing Madeleine by the end of 2009.

Well-wishers gave almost £2million in the 10 months after the three-year-old vanished from Praia da Luz, Portugal, in May 2007.

Most has been spent on private investigators.

Now Gerry, who went to Portugal last weekend, has revealed the fund is running dry. There are fears it will be hard to raise more because of the crunch.

The heart specialist, from Rothley, Leics, said: "There is still money but I can't give the exact figure.

"We continue to spend with the aim of finding her. It won't dry up in the next few months but probably by the end of the year."
