Kate and Gerry McCann reveal extent of hate mail over missing Madeleine

A new documentary about the disappearance of Madeleine McCann to be screened tonight reveals that Kate and Gerry are forced to sort the thousands of letters they receive into boxes - with some marked 'nutty' and 'nasty'.

As the documentary opens, Kate and Gerry are seen sorting some of the thousands of letters they have received into boxes including well-wishers, ideas, visions/ dreams, nasty and nutty.

Kate says: "99 per cent are really nice and supportive and then there's that one per cent of society who send the nasty ones."

Gerry fishes a vile seasonal message from the nasty box and reads: "Gerry and Kate. How can you use money given by poor people in good faith to pay your mortgage on your mansion? You f***ing thieving bastards. Your brat is dead because of your drunken arrogance. Shame on you. I curse you and your family for ever."

Gerry comments: "That's quite nice. Very charming."

And Kate simply shakes her head in sheer disbelief.
