Subject: Participation in the disappearance of the child
I inform you that on this date at about 00.10, the Lagos GNR contacted this police station about the disappearance of a female child, four years old and of English nationality.
According to the GNR officer, the disappearance would have taken place at about 22.40 yesterday, from the bedroom of a ground floor apartment in the OC in P da L , where a family composed of two adults and three children were staying.
The layout of the apartment is composed of two bedrooms, a kitchen, a living room and a bathroom.
Both the front entrance and the back door (sliding living room windows) permit easy access to the public road.
The couple, during dinner, would go to the children’s bedroom several times, and at a determined moment during one of these visits, the mother realised that one of the children was missing and raised the alarm to find her.
Given these facts and due to superior decisions, the police service was activated, consisting of the undersigned and the specialist, João Barreiras, who immediately left for the site and proceeded to carry out the inquiries related to the investigation.
At the site, the girl’s parents were identified as being:
Gerald Patrick McCann, of English nationality, born on 05/06/1968, holder of passport number 407905401 and owner of mobile phone n|° 00447786986188.
Kate Marie Healy, of English nationality, born on 05/03/1968, originally from Liverpool, holder of passport n° 034215169 and owner of mobile phone n° 00447903108397.
The both own the following residence:
Orchard House, 5 The Crescent, Rothley, Leicestershire, UK LE7RW
The missing girl was identified as Madeleine Beth McCann, born on 12/03/2003 and holder of passport n° 453847661.
It is stated that, in addition to the little girl referred to, the couple have twins aged two who were also in the bedroom where the girl was sleeping.
In conversation with Gerald Patrick McCann, it was possible to learn the following:
They had been staying at the OC since 28th April 2007, the plan being to stay for a week.
From the day 29/04/2007 he would dine with his wife at the OC restaurant, whilst their children were in the bedroom a few metres away from the restaurant.
They would have dinner at the restaurant with three other couples who were friends.
Yesterday (the day of the events) they got up at 07.30 and had breakfast in the apartment. At 09.00 they went out of the apartment and left the children at the crèche, this crèche was located within the OC, with child care workers who would look after the children until 12.30.
After lunch, at about 14.30 the children would be left at the crèche again, remaining there until about 17.00.
At about 17.30 the parents would bathe the children and give them something to eat and at about 19.30 the children would go to sleep in one of the bedrooms in the apartment referred to.
At about 20.30 the couple would leave for the restaurant to have dinner.
At about 21.05/21.15 Gerald (the father) went to the children’s room and saw the bedroom door was partly open, which he thought strange because he had the impression that he had closed it, however he entered the room and saw the children and checked that the window and the shutter were closed.
At about 21.20, their friend Jane passed by the apartment, (along the corridor of the main façade) and saw an individual carrying a child in the descending direction of the road, only managing to notice that this individual was aged between 30-40 with dark hair and wearing light coloured trousers.
At about 21.30 their friend Mat entered the apartment by the back door (living room sliding doors), he did not enter the bedroom and only saw the twins sleeping, he did not notice anything strange.
At the same place, at about 22.00, Kate (the mother) discovered the events and the disappearance of Madeleine Beth McCann, given that at this time the window was wide open as well as the curtains and shutters.
In conversations with the Director of Maintenance of the OC Services, Silvia María Correa Batista, it was possible to establish that those responsible for the running of the crèche were Lindsay Johnson and Stacey Portz and that since October the following crèche employees began work: Amy Tierney, Pauline McCann, Rhiannon Fretter, Charlotte Pennington, Leanne Wagstaff, Susan Owen, Sarah Wwianson (sic), Jackie Williams, Shinead Vine, Emma Wilkins, Cat Baker and Kirsty Maryan.
The director for service maintenance of the OC provided lists of guests in the apartments and lists of guests who left on 03/05/2007 and gave her telephone n| ***** for any further information that might be required. It is important to state that when officers from this police force arrived at the site, they were already several people inside the apartment, who could have contaminated the site.
It is important to state that GNR officers carried out various searches near the apartment in the attempt to locate the little, but that until now these searches have been fruitless.
An examination of the site was made, as well as a photographic report.
The parents handed over one photograph of Madeleine Beth McCann.
I bring this to your attention.
Signed
Inspector
