McCanns dealt 'great injustice'

Archbishop of York Dr John Sentamu

The Archbishop of York has sprung to the McCanns' defence as they fight to clear their name.

Dr John Sentamu said: "Kate and Gerry have been treated unjustly and inhumanely because the evidence does not stack up at all. There is this great injustice which they feel is piled upon them."

One of the McCanns' friends, Dr Fiona Payne, 34, who was with them the night Madeleine disappeared, said: "The way they have coped is amazing. They have to live with these awful allegations while keeping level-headed enough to run the campaign to find her. They will never give up on that."
