Kate McCann cried yesterday at a Mass for Madeleine.
She and Gerry walked to the 11am service at the Catholic Church of the Sacred Heart, 200 yards from their home. It is where they always took Madeleine on Sundays.
For the hour-long prayers Kate and Gerry sat hugging two-year-old twins Sean and Amelie on their laps.
Father Keith Tomlinson told the packed congregation: "Today we welcome the return of Kate, Gerry and the twins. It is nice for them to come to Mass at their local church."
The service was based on the parable of the Prodigal Son - about a long-lost child returning home.
During the rosary - set prayers where the congregation repeats verses - two special mentions were made of four-year-old Madeleine.
A fellow worshipper said: "Kate became very tearful. When the rosary was complete Kate and Gerry hugged. It was very emotional."
The couple were also moved by a prayer written for Madeleine, read by eight-year-old Molly Earp. She said: "Jesus please continue to love and protect us, until we are found."
After Mass, Gerry said: "It was comforting to be amongst friends and family praying for Madeleine."
As the couple walked home, Madeleine's pink Cuddle Cat toy could be seen peeping out of Kate's shoulder bag.
