Carter Ruck abusive use of the temporary injunction issued on the 9 September 2009 by a Portuguese Court regarding four Portuguese parties and/or individuals. Carter Ruck lawyers acting on behalf of their clients, the McCann couple, sent the temporary injunction to the above mentioned host and site owner. The temporary injunction, clearly, has only jurisdiction on Portuguese Soil, and only regarding those that are specified: Guerra & Paz Book Publishers, TVI Portuguese Channel owned by Prisa Spanish Media Group, Valentim de Carvalho Filmes owned by Valentim de Carvalho Productions, and Gonçalo Amaral the author of the banned book "Maddie, The Truth of the Lie" - the book remains banned after this year (2010) hearings resulted in the temporary injunction being uphold whilst the libel action brought by the McCanns in Portugal where they demand 1,2 million euros from the book author and former Judiciary Police Coordinator is still undecided [to be judged]. The documentary also remains banned via the same injunction though the defence lawyers have made appeals against the court decision.

The ultimate intention of the "main action" as per the McCann couple's layer, Dr.ª Isabel Duarte, seeks the destruction of all the book copies as well as the DVD's that were produced and were supposed to be distributed by VC Filmes. The documentary was broadcast by TVI Portuguese Channel, and reached the highest audience peaks for the year of 2008. After both documentary and book were banned, in what is an evident Streisand Effect in motion, several copies were made available in the internet, with voluntary English translations.
